Why Stay in a Boutique Hotel

The travel industry is one which tends to be full of the latest buzzwords and a few years ago ‘boutique’ was one such keyword which every hotel wanted to attach to its name. Although the popularity has somewhat died down, there is still much to be enjoyed about finding and staying in a boutique hotel when travelling.

They tend to be smaller

In order to qualify as a boutique hotel, the establishment will typically have less than 100 rooms meaning it has a much more intimate feel than a large branded hotel chain. The aim of the hotel should be to create an ambience where you feel like one guest of a handful rather than one of hundreds and staff should go out of their way to make you feel like you are the most important guest staying in the hotel.

They tend to be unique

The great thing about boutique hotels is that they tend to have their own diverse characters and feel. The Montcalm hotel Shoreditch, for example, has a distinctive hotel façade which immediately draws the eye and lets guests know that they are arriving to stay at somewhere truly unique. There should be nothing standard about a boutique hotel and even if they are part of a larger brand, each one should have its own sense of individuality which makes it stand out.

The design should be different

Not all boutique hotels have to be modern and sleek; some can offer a homely and relaxed atmosphere with interior design to match. Usually with a boutique hotel you will find one particular theme carried out throughout the public areas of the hotel with each room being designed slightly differently so that no two rooms are exactly the same. The point here is to step away from ‘cookie cutter’ hotel rooms and create an experience which is individual for each guest.

They are well placed

Although there is no hard and fast rule here, boutique hotels do tend to be located in up and coming areas of a city. As with the Shoreditch hotel they are often on the edge of the main ‘tourist’ areas whilst still being located close enough that if guests want to enjoy sightseeing then they can.

Service is exceptional

Finally, the level of service which a guest can expect at a boutique hotel should be second to none. The main purpose of a boutique hotel should be to create a personalised stay for a guest; staff should know a guest’s name from the minute they check-in and rooms will often include details such as a pillow menu or in-room aromas available for selection.
