How to ensure you get the best hotel room… every time

When you plan to travel away, booking a hotel room can be a long winded task. Many people scour the internet looking for a good deal, but end up feeling overwhelmed and confused by the sheer amount of choice out there. You don’t want to make the wrong decision, so how do you ensure you get a great room?

Here’s a few tips to getting a great hotel room every time:

Ask for a corner room – if you can, ask for a corner room, and then you’ll probably get more square footage for the same price.

Check in near the end of the day - If you’re hoping to get an upgrade, checking in toward the end of the day might be a way you can achieve this, as the hotel staff can sense the occupancy rate by that point. They can then offer you an otherwise empty club room which costs them nothing – but means a lot to you!

Call the hotel directly - Staff who are working directly at the hotel have a greater ability of upgrading you and giving you the best discounts, when possible. They also may be able to negotiate a better deal for you if you’re staying for more nights, like for 7 nights, for instance.

Sign up for a hotel’s loyalty programs - One of the best ways to receive free upgrades is to sign up for a loyalty program. The Montcalm Royal London House, for instance, has Club Double rooms available which give guests a little extra when they check in. This includes fresh water and fruit in the room, and access to the club lounge. A club double room would be very desirable at this hotel, so if you can get upgraded to it, you are in for a great stay.

Mention when it’s a special occasion - Whether it’s your birthday, honeymoon, or first time at a hotel, it never hurts to mention that you’re there at the hotel celebrating a special time. Some hotels note this down and try and make it special for you as a result.
